Chef Tope Maggie: Waiting to hear from Guinness World Records

Having successfully completed his audacious attempt to break the record for longest cooking marathon by any individual hitting 200 hours, above the previous record holder, Chef Alan Fisher (from Ireland), who set the record recently by cooking 119 hours 57 minutes (to dethrone Nigerian Hilda Baci who cooked 93 hours 11 minutes in May), Tope Ayodeji Adebayo popularly known as Chef Tope Maggie, from Ogbomoso, Oyo state, Nigeria, now awaits official statement from the Guinness World Records (GWR).

GWR will have to in the next few hours release an official statement (on its website) acknowledging the record attempt and then get possession of the evidence for its Records Management Team to review, before the record can be confirmed official.

A team member of Chef Tope Maggie Cook-a-thon Adventure, Mr. Seun Ogunbiyi, who spoke with ogbomosoinsightonline.com Saturday, said Tope successfully completed the attempt in the early hours of Saturday (about 2:41), disclosing however he was immediately conveyed in an ambulance, which had been on stand by at the venue, to an hospital for comprehensive medical investigation. “And so currently the heroic chef is undergoing normal medical attention and taking a deserved rest,” he added.

Ogunbiyi, who was organizer of the event, informed the team is now compiling the evidence of the cooking marathon.

“The next thing now is that we will compile the evidence of the attempt. These include the videos, the photographs, independent witness statement, time keeper record and other things which we will send to the Guinness World Records.”

Ogbomoso Insight understands that after review of videos and evidence GWR will now confirm the record.

The quest was supported by many Nigerians especially people of his Ogbomoso community who cheered him all through, trooping to the venue to constantly give him moral support and many made it trend in social media.

Top dignitaries who visited Maggie include Prince Dotun Oyelade, Oyo state commissioner for information and civic orientation; Rev’d Niyi Adebayo, lead pastor of True Worshipers Church; Dr Kunle Adegbite, founder of Twindad Orphanage Home; Dr Victor Olawuyi, Genesis Medical Diagnostics Centre; Hon Shina Peller, ex-federal lawmaker; Hon Shina Oyedeji, member House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency and HRH Oba Reuben Adesina Amao, Alaaje of Aaje.
