Going, going … Newly constructed Ogbegun bridge faces collapse again

The Ogbegun bridge whose construction was completed early this year has begun to suffer degradation that may lead to its collapse yet again.
After years of being cut off from the main road precipitating residents taking longer dilapidated routes to reach outside their enclave the Oyo state government under the leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde in conjunction with the Ogbomoso North local government began the reconstruction of the bridge and adjoining road (600m) in November 2022 and within three months completed the project.
This elicited joy in residents and other users of the road. However, the road portion by the bridge is already showing signs of distress and is caving in.
A week after the road was open for use similar thing happened when at another spot by the bridge signs of buckling started to show, a development reported promptly by Ogbomoso Insight. And following the outcry by residents also, the contractor that handled the project quickly laid the degraded portion with asphalt.
“The project remains a suspect, it is not a good job, some other portions within the stretch are also caving in, something has to be done,” a resident, Mr. Kofo Adekunle told ogbomosoinsightonline.comMonday morning.
