Ogbomoso University gains momentum with education summit slated for June

The prospect of having a community-driven private university in Ogbomoso is to be explored through a broad based education summit scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

 

The summit which is being packaged by a group, Ogbomoso Academics in conjunctions with Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF), will also consider the challenges inherent in the vision, under the theme, “The Ogbomoso University: Prospects and Challenges.”

 

The idea of establishment of a privately owned university spearheaded by the people of Ogbomoso has been on for some time with various proposed names such as Ogbomoso University and Ajilete University.

 

According to a press release signed by Mr Ben Onigbinde and Rev Peter Olaleye, the summit, geared towards bolstering “education sector in Ogbomoso zone, Oyo State and Nigeria in general,” will specifically “explore the founding of a university in the city of Ogbomoso whose proposed name is Ogbomoso University.”

 

Slated for Ogbomoso Recreation Club, starting 9:00am, speakers including Prof Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu (former Deputy Vice Chancellor Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH), Prof Joshua Ogunwole (Vice Chancellor Bowen University, Iwo), Prof Mrs Alice Jekayinfa, Dr. Adeniyi Temitope Adetunji, Rev Peter Olaleye (president Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum, OCYF), Prof Oyewumi Kayode John and Prof Timothy Olagbemiro (former Vice Chancellor Bowen University and Edwin Clark University and who is chairman of Ogbomoso Academics) will deliver talks on the theme.

 

Justice Afolabi Adeniran (retd), president, Ogbomoso Parapo Worldwide, will be chief host at the event.
