‘He’s dedicated,’ colleagues mourn as teacher found unconscious by motorcycle in deserted street dies

Teachers in Ogbomoso zone have been mourning the demise of one of them, Michael Adegbola Akanmu, who died Saturday morning.
Mr. Akanmu according to investigation died after spending 12 days in the hospital – at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

On November 1, he was discovered unconscious laying beside his motorcycle at Pakiotan/New Sawmill area, Ogbomoso.
“Nobody knew where he was headed when he met with the terrible fate,” a source in his school, Baptist Secondary Grammar School (BSGS), Sunsun, told ogbomosoinsightonline.com Sunday.
“Some good Samaritans found him lying unconscious by his motorcycle, they retrieved his mobile phone to call his people. He was subsequently taken to hospital.
“It was not clear if it’s an accident or a case of attack. But he was said to have come out of the coma and was already talking, even they were mooting discharging him when his condition relapsed about four days ago. He died yesterday morning.”

A Master’s degree holder teaching English language, he was employed by the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in 2005 and was on level 13 until his transition.
Principal of the school, Dn. Ezekiel Gbemisoye Oyelade described him as “a dedicated, hardworking teacher, very active, obedient and an encourager. In his church too, Union Baptist Church, he was said to be fervent. He will be sorely missed.”
In his 50s he would be buried on Monday, November 14.
