Man’s cruelty against man knows no bounds!

Friday, October 14, 2022, will never be forgotten in the families of the Agbejimis of Ogbomoso and the Uthmans of Ibadan. It will ever be a black Friday!

For on this day, a daughter, wife, sister and mother in the families, Mrs. Abimbola Adeola Uthman, nee Agbejimi, unbelievably suffered a cruel fate, met with a gruesome end in circumstances that left mouth agape and fills one with indignation.

“The daughter (of the deceased) told me that her mother went to meet the eldest daughter, who was returning to Ibadan from Ekiti State at the gate of the University of Ibadan (UI).That was on October 14, at about 8pm,” the brother of the deceased, Oyewumi Agbejimi, narrated in an interview while giving graphic details of what led to our sister’s death.

“She went to the UI where she intended to pick the eldest daughter. She wanted to park her car in front of a bank there when a wine coloured Sienna mini bus hit her car from behind.

“My sister came down to check the extent of the damage done to her car by the Toyota Sienna but the driver of the vehicle which hit her did not come down and was not moved at all. She told the young man to park and come down to check the damage but the young man was said to have threatened to crush her with his vehicle if she didn’t leave the road. And even before she could move, the boy crushed her and she was rushed to hospital to save her life but she died hours later.

“The yahoo boy fled with his vehicle immediately he crushed her. It was her daughter who was in the car with her that narrated what transpired. She gave the description of the boy; she said he was wearing dreadlocks, the typical hairstyle of Yahoo boys. She said the boy is short and fair in complexion.“

The late Mrs. Uthman, 48years old, was a teacher at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, capital of Oyo state, and was a top examiner with the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO).

She attended Soun High School, Ogbomoso, undertook her HSC programme at Federal Government College, also in Ogbomoso before proceeding to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, for her first degree studying Agricultural Economics and Extension.

Her father (now late), retired as principal at Soun High School, after which he fully plunged into politics emerging as secretary of the defunct Ogbomoso local government. He left his marks both as education administrator and political office holder.

Mrs. Uthman was buried on Wednesday, October 19 in Ibadan.

Meanwhile, the culprit is still at large.
