Mr. Femi Onireti has hailed the dissolution of the joint ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Reacting to the pronouncement of the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed during a media briefing in Abuja yesterday in which he said Osun state had been disengaged from the ownership structure of the institution with Oyo state assuming full ownership, Onireti said it was a welcome development and described it as an indelible achievement equivalent to giving Oyo state and Ogbomoso in particular a monumental industry.
This is as he noted the new arrangement would provide employment opportunities both skilled and unskilled and elicit incredible improvement in the economy of the state.
In a press statement he personally signed this afternoon, Onireti, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, stated, “The news of the dissolution of LAUTECH’s joint ownership between Oyo and Osun states is a welcome development.
“We are enthused by the development. Governor Seyi Makinde has recorded an indelible achievement, one that will make his name unforgettable in the history of the university and Oyo state in general.
“This achievement is like giving Oyo state and Ogbomoso in particular a very big industry. This industry will certainly be a source of employment to all categories of workers; it is like establishing a new university for the state, whose effect will be felt in our economy. His action is commendable.”
Onireti, a US-based businessman also congratulated Oyo state people over the feat adding, “Makinde is a focused administrator, he is making strenuous efforts to fulfill his electoral promises.
“He promised during electioneering to make Oyo state become sole owner of LAUTECH and within one and a half years of his administration, he has accomplished this, he is the kind of leader we need. People should continue to support him.”
The executive chairman of Femi Onireti Foundation, while similarly commending past efforts of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III; Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran; Ogbomoso Parapo Worldwide and other organizations towards achieving this goal, now called for a concerted efforts from all stakeholders in Oyo state to give the university a strong footing “so that its past glory can be restored by which it can rank among the leading universities in the world.”
