The demise of Professor Olajire Abass of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, last Friday after he slumped at a mosque was a death too many in the best state university in Nigeria.
But before his sudden death, ogbomosoinsightweekly@yahoo.com learnt that about five other staffers of the institution had passed on, all in recent times.
It was this tale of untimely transitions that informed the staging of a seven-day prayer session organzed by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of LAUTECH that comprises the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU).
The prayer session being held at an open ground at a road intersection near the Senate Building (Admin Building), has clerics from both Christian and Islamic faitths leading the sessions.
Two staffers of the registry as well as two in the works (one security and one electrical) departments) and another person are the other victims of untimely death in the university.
Meanwhile, members of management have not attended the programme though intensive prayer is directed at them too.
A worker told our correspondent, “only prayer can ward off evils, we have no other means.”
