Identity of LAUTECH Iseyin campus student crushed by bus revealed, as campus shut by authorities

The identity of the student of the College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH Ogbomoso, Oyo state, killed by a bus in Iseyin, has been revealed.

According to investigations by ogbomosoinsightonline.com the name of the student is Afolayan Oluwadarasimi Roseline.
A 200 level agricultural economics student (a new intake from Ogbomoso, who had completed 100 level), she was said to have gone out to have her gas cylinder refilled when she met with the tragic incident.

Students vent anger
The unfortunate death of the student naturally ignited the anger of her colleagues who poured out in their hundreds to protest, reportedly burning the bus.
The ensuing public disturbance later sparked LAUTECH management to suspend academic activities in the Iseyin campus for two weeks. This was disclosed in a press release signed by the registrar Olayinka O. Balogun, Friday.
Academic activities are expected to resume November 24.

A peak of frustration
ogbomosoinsightonline.com reports that the Iseyin campus has been bedeviled by a number of issues which have resulted in frustration among students and staff.
When the idea of taking the faculty of agriculture from the permanent campus in Ogbomoso was mooted few years ago, it was vehemently resisted by students and staff but the move was ultimately actualized.
Nonetheless, inadequate facilities such as lecture theatres, teaching and research farms, office accommodation, classrooms, and so on, have dogged the existence of the new campus, allegedly resulting in declining enrolment aside abandonment of courses by students to seek knowledge elsewhere.

Furthermore, “there have been incessant cases of robberies perpetrated against the students,” another resident of Iseyin said. ”All this in addition with the other problems must have piqued the already frustrated students thus they resorted to protesting.”
It is also recalled that recently staff rejected an order to relocate to the Iseyin campus leading to a series of unpalatable incidences.
In the meantime the situation has remained tense at both the Ogbomoso and Iseyin campuses of the university.
