The commander of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed Operation Amotekun, Surulere local government area of Oyo state, Chief Olu Elebe has revealed the measures adopted by the security outfit to curb insecurity in the area and Ogbomoso as a whole.
Chief Elebe made this revelation while speaking with ogbomosoinsightonline.com at a function this afternoon.
Elebe said that the peace being enjoyed in the zone is down to the efforts of the outfit in ensuring adequate networking.
“We ensure adequate coverage of our communities, we monitor movement of Fulani herders into and out of the communities.
“Amotekun also holds regular meetings with the ‘Jooros’ (leaders) of Fulani hersdmen and they cooperate with us.
“If there is any strange movement or unknown herdsmen arrive or come to an area they quickly inform us and we will swiftly swing into action by confronting such strangers to determine their mission. If they are criminally-inclined, we will know and such people are driven out.
“We have similarly met with traditional rulers especially in areas prone to attacks to seek their cooperation and many of them work well with us.”
He stressed Amotekun operatives are committed to the responsibility they are saddled with and are working round the clock to curb the activities of criminals.
He added that the agency now enjoys a good working relationship with the police and other security agencies disclosing that the Orile-Igbon DPO, who shot at his men early this year has made up with them.
The Amotekun commander emphasized that the joint effort of all security agencies including traditional outfits like OPC, hunters, Vigilantes and others would ensure insecurity becomes a thing of the past while also calling on the cooperation of the citizens in promptly informing them of suspicious persons in their communities.
