Prompt repair of Ogbomoso trunk A road: Kudos to FERMA

It is heartening beholding the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) working promptly and assiduously to fix the Ogbomoso trunk A road linking the northern and western parts of Nigeria.

The last repair on the problematic road was undertaken late last year spilling into 2025, however, it has begun to show signs of strain again with potholes already appearing at various spots.

Articulated vehicles commonly called trailers that ply the road daily in their thousands usually take their toll on the vital road connecting two economic zones of the country. With the rainy season getting to its peak, the holes were getting wider and deeper but thank God, for the first time FERMA made a quick intervention.

Recall the road was also rehabilitated in October 2022 after it engendered lots of disasters and great inconveniences to road users and residents, but by late 2023, the degradation started again and by the middle of 2024, the road had become so dilapidated with wide gullies and craters that vehicles spent days stuck to a spot. Trailers fell off for free, drivers, their assistants and commuters got stranded polluting the environment with wastes. It was hellish. There was a general outcry leading to the contract for its rehabilitation being awarded in November 2024, which was promptly executed.

“We thank the federal government for the quick intervention this time around,” a resident, John Adelakun, told ogbomosoinsightonline.com. “This is indeed commendable. However, a more durable solution will be achieved when the Ogbomoso – Oyo section of the Ibadan – Ilorin highway is completed. This will reduce pressure on the old road. We appreciate President Bola Tinubu for awarding the contract for its completion too. We appeal to the contractor – JRB Construction Company Ltd – to adhere to the September 2026 time line given and to ensure quality project is delivered.”
