Rotational chairmanship: Akogun of Ogbomoso Land AVM Adigun backs Oyo Assembly

Air Vice Marshal (Dr) Jacob Bolaji Adigun (rtd) has backed the Oyo State House of Assembly (OYHA) for passing the Chiefs Law Amendment Bill (2025) into law which stipulates rotational chairmanship among Alaafin of Oyo, Olubadan of Ibadanland and Soun of Ogbomosoland.
Recall permanent chairmanship in favour of Alaafin was on the table before the House retraced its steps to upholding rotational chairmanship.
AVM Adigun who is the chairman of Ogbomoso Descendants Development Association (ODDA) in a statement signed by the spokesman for ODDA, Olusegun Aremu, noted the decision of the House was the best that could happen to the Council of Obas and Chiefs in recent time.
“Rotational chairmanship of Obas Council is the best way to go. I give full backing to the State Assembly,” the statement reads.
AVM JB Adigun, the Chief Akogun of Ogbomoso Land, affirmed the decision is a true reflection of history submitting the position of the OYHA was a welcome development.

“The decision is a reflection of the wish of the majority. It reflects historical reality of the present time. Oyo State House of Assembly took the best decision for the state..Kudos to the members of Oyo State House of Assembly on this issue and most importantly the Speaker RT Hon. Debo Ogundoyin for taking the bold step.”
The Akogun while appreciating the Executive Governor of the State His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde, FNSE for his exemplary leadership in governance urged him to quickly assent the bill so it can come into effect maintaining “the Soun deserves the position and the reigning Soun has the capacity to lead the Council with effectiveness. The OYHA has taken best decision for the state.”
