The 2025 Scholarship Award of the Ogbomoso Progressive Elite Club (OPEC) powered by Hon Femi Onireti will hold Thursday, April 3, at the Anglican Grammar School Hall, Sabo.

 

The event, which is the third edition, according to a press release signed by Engr Damilare Amusan (for Hon Onireti) and Comrade Dokun Alamu, Comrade (Prince) Tojuade Adedoyin and Mr. Origade Adegbite (OPEC), will feature 4 main events viz presentation of 2025 free JAMB slips to 60 beneficiaries, bursary awards to 200 level students under the scheme who made a minimum of 2nd class upper in their first session, financial assistance to new university entrants and presentation of second tranche of financial assistance to Miss Helen Omobola Alabi, who notched the highest UTME score in Ogbomoso in 2023, subsequently gaining admission to study medicine at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

 

The organizers giving a breakdown states, “The 60 beneficiaries are those that were successful in the qualifying examination organized by the club on the 11th of November, 2024 for over 150 candidates across the Five Local Government Councils in Ogbomoso Zone.

 

“The second category of beneficiaries are those who benefitted in 2024, now in 200 level and who made good grades. This is in fulfilment of the promise made in February, 2023. We affirm that Honourable Olufemi Onireti will continue with his financial assistance to those that are in 200-Level in the universities and whose academic results show that they fall within Second Class (Upper Division) and above.”

Continuing, the release states, “The recipients for 2024 (those whose JAMB forms were paid for by Hon Onireti in conjunction with OPEC) and have gained admission into universities are also to receive their financial assistance. They are: Odedele Samson, Adesanya Joy Adenike, Ogunniran Samuel Abayomi, Ifakorede Ifadamilola, Aderinto Lawrence, Oluwaniyi Christianah Oluwaniyo, Adebisi Darasimi, Oyegbami Victoria Jesuferanmi and Okewole Festus Odunayo.

 

“And then, the medical student that scored the highest mark in the 2024 JAMB examination from Ogbomoso Zone will receive her second year full tuition fee. She is Helen Omobola Alabi.”

 

The statement adds that parent(s) of the beneficiaries are expected to attend the programme.

 

Hon Onireti in a chat emphasized that “merit alone is the basis for selection of beneficiaries, and not politics, not friendship. We are determined to lift education and the best driver for this is adherence to merit, best performances.”

“If all the sixty we bought JAMB forms this year passed and gained admission, so be it, we will render financial assistance, and if they continuously make 2-1 and above we will not stop the bursary awards to them. We want to motivate and inspire excellence. That is what we stand for.”

 

The event to start 10:am will be chaired by Prince Ezekiel Olalere Ajiboye, a retired Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
