13 eminent women honoured as Aye Obinrin convener marks 2025 Int’l Women’s Day in Ogbomoso

The 2025 International Women’s Day was marked with fanfare by the Aye Obinirin convener, Mrs. Motunrayo Babatunde, in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, Saturday.
The event held at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club saw 13 women who had distinguished themselves in various fields being bestowed with various awards.
The awardees included Deaconess Rachael Olanrewaju Magbagbeola; Professor Folashade Bolarinwa, a US-based distinguished researcher; Dr Adefunke Ibijuwa, Librarian Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso; Mrs. Nurat Olayiwola, principal Oolo Grammar School; Prof Alice Jekayinfa, retired university don; Mrs. Temitope Sarah Akinde; and Rev’d Dorcas Funmilayo Awoniyi.

Others were Pastor Grace Ayodele Adebayo; Dr. Mrs. Folasade Ajao; APWEN Ogbomoso chapter; Busayo Sarah Oladele (current Miss Ogbomoso); Barrister N.N. Okwulsidi and the Ansarudeen Society Ogbomoso chapter.
Mrs. Adijat Abosede Onaolapo, the guest speaker, in her lecture, “Breaking the chain of inaction in women,” which is the theme of 2025 International Women’s Day, observing that inaction is “a silent road block, preventing women from achieving their goals, making decisions, or pursuing the life they truly want,” asserted that breaking inaction in women is crucial to achieving gender equality and women empowerment.
“Breaking the chain of women inaction in women is essential for achieving gender equality and empowering women to reach their full potential,” she submitted.
Mrs. Onaolapo stressed that having a clear picture of one’s goal, showing commitment, courage and consistency are keys to taking action, urging women to strive to be upwardly mobile.
The convener, Mrs. Babatunde informed the edition was the third put together by her organization disclosing that “Aye Obinrin” which started as a radio programme about ten years ago addresses issues and challenges facing women.
She also stated that awards’ conferment was instituted to celebrate women achievers and women organizations that have made impact in the society, as she charged women to continue to chart career paths and break barriers that constitute stumbling blocks in their path of progress.
Hon Mrs Kemi Popoola a.k.a Olori Agba, who also spoke at the event while commending Mrs. Babatunde urged women to embrace action and forsake inaction.
