10th anniversary: Family of Nigerian war hero Benjamin Adekunle rolls out prog in 3 cities

The family of late Brigadier Benjamin Adekunle a.k.a. the “Black Scorpion” has rolled out a week-long programme to commemorate his tenth death anniversary.

This is contained in a press release signed by Barrister Benjamin Onigbinde on behalf of Adekunle family and made available to ogbomosoinsightonline.com.
According to the release the event will hold in three Nigerian cities including his hometown Ogbomoso in Oyo state, the Federal Capital Territory Abuja and Lagos where he was buried when he died in 2014.
“The family of the late Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle (popularly known as the ‘Black Scorpion ‘ ) under whose command Federal forces recaptured the Delta and riverine areas of Nigeria from the Biafran forces during the early stages of the Nigerian Civil War, hereby announce a one week remembrance programme to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the death of the late General.

“The programme, organised by the children and extended family of the late Brigadier-General will commence during the 2nd week of September starting with a private civil religious service at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi Lagos and will feature a Memorial Lecture in the late General’s hometown Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Charitable events will hold simultaneously in both Ogbomoso and the nation’s capital Abuja,. In the course of the commerative week, the late General’s family will be announcing details of a Memorial Foundation to be established in honour of the late General.”
It is also stated that two retired senior army officers Major General Lawrence Ngubane (who incidentally hails from the same place as the mother of late Benjamin Adekunle) and Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Director-General of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA) are lined up to assume the leadership of the planned Board of Trustees of the proposed Benjamin Adekunle Foundation, while it’s indicated that details of the remembrance programme will be unveiled in August.

“Two distinguished retired Generals- Major- General Lawrence Ngubane of the same origin as the late General’s mother, and the current Director-General of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency Brigadier-General Buba Marwa are reported to have been approached by the Adekunle family to lead the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Further details of late Benjamin Adekunle’s 10th Anniversary Remembrance Programme will be released in due course in the month of August.”
