Herdsmen killings: Spiritually or legally, we’ll tackle the menace – Ogbomoso Parapo

“This cruelty has to stop,” the home branch chairman of Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye, Prince Aderemi Olude, said matter-of-fact while speaking with newsmen Wednesday at the burial of Solomon Adigun, the 31 year old recently killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in his farm at Elemuye village in Surulere local government area of Ogbomoso.

Olude, a prince of Onpetu royal dynasty of Ijeru, vowed that the socio-cultural association with the support of Ogbomoso people would curtail the menace and put a stop at the “incessant killings of our bright stars by these blood demons.”
He lamented the killing of Adigun was the third one in recent times stressing it had become unbearable.

He informed the association had summoned to a meeting all Seriki (head) Fulanis in the five local governments in Ogbomoso zone at which he said they expressed stern displeasure at the trend.

“But the Serikis responded that the perpetrators were not resident Fulanis but Bororo Fulani herdsmen employed by traditional rulers, the rich and politicians to tend their herds of cattle. They insisted our people are the fire fueling the peril as they secretly back the killers since they tend their cattle,” Prince Olude disclosed.
On how to tackle the problem he said the association is planning to hold a meeting with the traditional rulers on their role in the problem, assuring the meeting would soon hold.

Also calling on security agents to rise to the occasion, he charged that they should strive to “enforce the law that forbids the carrying of weapons such as cutlass, sword and dagger by the people. These Fulani people use these weapons to hurt our people. It must stop, the security agents must be alive to their responsibility.”
He added, “The atrocities of these herders have escalated. They have to be contained. They can’t be killing us with impunity in our backyard.”

He warned, “We are ready to find a solution whether legally or spiritually. We can’t bear it any longer for these blood hounds to be killing our bright stars at will. We have learnt of three of such incidents this year alone, enough is enough. This must be the last. Security agents need to do more. And they should always be on the side of justice, that way the menace will be curtailed. Meanwhile, l charge our people not to take laws into their hands in this matter.”
