LAUTECH Iseyin campus: ‘They beat us with belt for fighting for exam space’

Stories of woes have continued to emanate from the newly established Iseyin campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo state, where 200 level students of the faculty of agricultural sciences have been moved to.

In a social media post recently, a student lamented how they were beaten with belt (presumably by security agents) during the just concluded second semester examination.
According to the post, the satellite campus is beset with inadequate computer systems for exams, a situation that made students struggle and fight to get access to the few available ones.

Unable to contain the students’ ”unruly” behaviour, the invigilators, who it had been revealed included security agents, feeling exasperated, resorted to controlling the students by lashing out at them with belt, the post explains.
It was further asserted that everything is in disarray at the campus, “nothing is under control.” (See post below).
Facilities at the Iseyin campus including lecture rooms, laboratories, equipment and farm practical units have been shown to be inadequate, eliciting constant lamentations from the students.
Recall about two hundred computers were evacuated from the ICT unit at the main campus recently which caused a row.
However, the authorities have refused to back down on the arrangement to consider alternatives.
“It is obviously and practically impossible to continue this way,” a senior lecturer in the faculty who however pleaded anonymity told ogbomosoinsightonline.com.
Continuing, he pointed out, “We have a bigger problem now. The present two hundred level students are expected to transit to 300 level when another session resumes while the present 100 level students are expected to assume for 200 at Iseyin. If the facilities on ground could not take less than 500 students who reported out of 1533 among the present 200 level students, how would the next batch be catered for?
“No practical, no machineries, no demonstration farms. The situation is appalling, they are just compromising the standard, they are jeopardizing the future of the children because of frivolities. Because of stupid agenda.
“Why must they insist on pressing on with what is a failed project? You have everything available – classrooms, offices, all resources somewhere but you took the decision to relocate elsewhere. Does that make sense? You are making students suffer, gambling with their future because of personal agenda. It’s inexplicable.”
