LETTER: Another Goodluck in Aiyedatiwa!

I received the news of the death of Arakunrin Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN), former governor of Ondo State with mixed feelings, am happy for the late leader to have gone to rest and be with his maker, at least period of serious pain has gone and am sad on the other hand because a big vacuum has been created. The late governor was a fearless leader and he was the only governor who spoke out against the nefarious activities of herdsmen and ensured “Amotekun” came to stay, he also spoke against injustice when some northerners wanted to retain power by all means after 8 years of Muhammad Buhari. Late Akeredolu was a brilliant lawyer whom most lawyers looked unto to emulate, adieu, a brilliant advocate and I hereby send my condolences to his beneficiaries, may God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss! By the provision of the Constitution, the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the substantive governor of Ondo State putting to an end the political imbroglio in Ondo State for the past 6 months or more. This is a man the State House of Assembly wanted to impeach few months ago, as majority of them were hell bent that the deputy governor must go BUT destiny is at work again like the similar case of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, it buttresses the biblical injunction “The stone which the builder rejected, is now the corner stone of the house.”

My take is that a fight against a man of destiny will always be efforts in futility. I want to appeal to the new governor not to witch-hunt anybody, he should learn from Joseph in the Bible and forgive those behind his predicament and settle down for governance because power is transient, he should endeavour to deliver dividends of democracy to his people and leave the rest to God. He should rely on God for his future political ambition and not squander the State resources to pursue his political ambition, I can see another Goodluck in Aiyedatiwa and I wish him the best as he takes leadership position of the Sunshine State.
