N35, 000 wage award: Labour issues ultimatum to Oyo govt

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Oyo state have given the Oyo state government an ultimatum of October 31 to domesticate the N35, 000 wage award approved for federal workers by President Bola Tinubu earlier in the month.

 

The labour unions gave the ultimatum in a communique issued after an emergency congress on Monday.

 

The communique under the aegis of the Publc Service Joint Negotiating Council, signed by Comrades Kayode Martins, Bosun Olabiyi and Oluwaseun Olanipekun, NLC, TUC and JNC chairmen respectively, states, “After Deep X-ray of the economic hardship the workers and pensioners are presently witnessing in Oyo State due the removal of subsidy on PMS, the congress frowned at the avoidable delay in the domestication of the wage award agreed by the Federal Government un 2 October, 2023 for workers and pensioners and they frankly agreed as follows:-

“That the 35,000 and N25,000 agreed for workers and pensioners respectively should be domesticated in Oyo state without any further delay.

 

“The congress give the Oyo State Government till end of the month of October 2023 (31″ October 2023) to domesticate the wage award in accordance with the Federal Government and national leadership of NLC/TUC.”

 

The communique does not however indicate the next line of action in the event government fails to meet up with the ultimatum.
