Ex-Oyo commissioner, Afonja, pays student’s WAEC fees in Ogbomoso for ‘good behaviour’

An SS 3 student of Owode Community Grammar School (Owode Grams) has “jammed” luck as her exhibition of good character has earned her reward.
The student Oseni Sukurat was passing by a row of shops along with some of her mates near her school premises at Oke Owode area, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, when she saw a man coming out of a urinal, and out of all the students she alone had the courtesy to greet “the elderly man.”
Oseni told ogbomosoinsightonline.com, “l was passing by along with some of my friends when l saw this man. I didn’t know her from Adams but l don’t know, l just knelt to greet him out of courtesy.
“But the man beckoned on us, commended me for my gesture and asked of the class l am.
“I told him SS 3 and demanded if l had paid for my WAEC fees which l had not as my parent has not been able to raise money even though time is running out.
“He consequently got my details and promised to assist. The second day his people contacted me on the matter, they had now fulfilled the promise. Now, my WAEC fees had been paid. I thank God and l thank my benefactor.”
The benefactor happened to be Professor Raphael Afonja, commissioner for works and housing at the inception of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
He was relieved of his post for an undisclosed “sin.”
Afonja initially disappeared from the political radar but he is now bouncing back remaining in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mother of Sukurat, Fauzat speaking with Ogbomoso Insight also expressed gratitude to Afonja praying for success in his political endeavours.
“The gesture is a big relief as we were yet to get money to pay Sukurat’s WAEC fees. We now have to look for NECO fees. We intend she would advance beyond secondary school education,” she added.
