Tragic struck last Saturday as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oriire local government of Ogbomoso zone, was crushed to death on his motorcycle at Arinkinkin area of the city while returning home.
The political bigwig identified as Elder Thomas Kayode Agboola, was said to have gone to hold a meeting with a leader of the party who operates a farm at the Farm Settlement otherwise known as Agric.
He was crushed by an articulated vehicle at Aje Iya Filing Station.
Confirming the incident a source at the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Ogbomoso unit lamented the recklessness always exhibited by commercial motorcyclists (perhaps the source thought the victim was an okada operator).
“That is a major problem we face, these okada operators are always reckless, always in a hurry. It is sad how they lose their lives to avoidable accidents,” the source stated.
The Ahoro Dada, Oriire local government-born politician, who would have turned 61 years old on October 1, was said to be a respected politician during his life time.
A party leader told ogbomosoinsightonline.com that he was among the three leaders chosen and recognized in Oriire by the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, a former governor of Oyo state.
A party stalwart who however didn’t want his name mentioned also described Agboola as a down-to-earth politician, who never felt any qualms as to whose ox is gored.
“He was a progressive to the core, he stood with the party through thick and thin. He believed in a collegiate leadership and will never shy away from standing for what is just within the party.
“He was a core supporter of Hon Jacob Bamgboye despite sharing the same root with Hon Gunju Ojo.
”He was among the very few who could challenge the decisions of late Ajimobi on so many issues without any backlash because he hardly sought for any personal benefits.”
His death is described as a big loss to the progressives family.
He was buried this afternoon after a funeral service at New Life Baptist Church, Ogbomoso High School area.
He was a bread baker, who practiced in Ogbomoso, Ilorin and Lagos before returning again to Ogbomoso, upon which he joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
He remained with the self-acclaimed progressives until his death on Saturday, August 21.
He is survived by mother, elder brothers, wives and children.
