Towards forcing the hand of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Ogbomoso business hub, to abide by the agreement reached with the Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF) on electric supply services the agreed monthly meeting between IBEDC officials and stakeholders comprising community leaders and heads of organizations will hold tomorrow at Ogunlola Hall, Oja’gbo, Ogbomoso.
According to a press release signed by the president and secretary of OCYF, Rev’d Peter Olaleye and Comrade Adebayo Adeniran respectively, “the meeting is part of the memorandum of understanding signed between OCYF and IBEDC in a meeting held at Ogbomoso Recreation Club on 21 June, 2021.
“The aim is to ensure that IBEDC as a profit–making organization is doing the needful and that the customers are also responding accordingly.”
It will be recalled that OCYF led a struggle against the activities of IBEDC in Ogbomoso considered exploitative by consumers in the community.
Series of meetings, protests and so on characterized the struggle culminating in a stakeholders’ meeting on July 8 at Ogbomoso Recreation Club, convoked by leaders of Ogbomoso Parapo Worldwide and Ogbomoso Community Foundation attended by top officials of the electricity company from the headquarters in Ibadan.
Far reaching decisions were made which included monthly stakeholders meeting (last Wednesday of every month) between consumers and IBEDC during which grey areas are expected to be ironed out.
The group appealed to the leaders to be present and punctual at the meeting.
