After spate of kidnappings, killings, arson, calm returns to Ajaawa


Ajaawa, the headquarters of Ogo-Oluwa local government, is now peaceful following weeks of crises that ignited panic in the town.
A recent visit to the community unveiled that normalcy has returned and everyone is now going about his normal business.

Shot dead during the fracas


Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Oba Thompson Adeyeye Oyetunji, in a telephone chat also confirmed the development stressing that the problems that erupted in recent times had been overcome.
It will be recalled that recently the town slipped into the throes of kidnappings and killings resulting in youths confronting the last set of suspected kidnappers who invaded the community in gun battle and apprehending them.

Subsequently, youths embarked on a protest against a suspected kingpin of the crimes, a prince of the town and indeed a contestant to the throne of Ajaawa before the installation of the reigning Oba last year.
The demonstration sparked further crises as a young man was allegedly shot dead by security men at the residence of the suspected crime kingpin Prince Ade Master.

Sequel to this, the youths attacked his (Ade Master) houses and hotel in Ajaawa razing them to the ground and destroyed a shrine he operated in an Ajaawa forest, the people believing the shrine was a den for criminal activities.
Ade Master escaped the attack narrowly and had not returned to the community since.
The Alajaawa, Ade Master and some other stakeholders were consequently invited to the state police headquarters at Eleyele, Ibadan for questioning and resolution of the crisis but no arrests were made.
It was also learnt that the police divisional headquarters, Ajaawa, convoked a peace meeting, attended by stakeholders including youths.
The youths and the residents of the town generally were appealed to, to allow peace to reign just as the divisional police officer (DPO) assured on cooperation and improved security maintenance bearing in mind that the DPO was at a time suspected to be in cahoots with criminals.
