The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa local government, which was newly approved by the federal government, is to temporarily take off at Government Technical College, Ogbomoso (GTCO).
According to information reaching our stable, some prominent indigenes of Ogbomoso some of whom worked tirelessly to wrench approval for the institution, had sought the cooperation of the Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for the release of GTCO so that academic activities can commence in September as stipulated in the approval letter signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
There are fears that the N2b approved by the federal government for the take off of the institution, part of which is expected to be committed to provision of infrastructural facilities, might not be released in time, and thus cause delay in the process.
“That is why the governor was approached for the release of the GTCO,” a source revealed, continuing, the source disclosed, “and thank God the governor graciously acceded to our request.”
Investigations at the GTCO also revealed that the authorities of the school had been notified from Abuja on the development “and so, GTCO is gearing up to host the institution temporarily.”
The source which however insists on anonymity opines that it is the best bet to ensure smooth take-off of the new Federal Polytechnic, Ayede.
When contacted the principal of GTCO, Mr. Adetunji Adebiyi, however declined to comment saying he was a civil servant who only does what he is asked to do.
Meanwhile, when contacted on mobile phone, Alayede of Ayede, Oba Solademi Adewuyi, who spoke through his wife, Olori Adewuyi debunked the suggestion positing, “Why does Federal Polytechnic Ayede have to begin on a temporary site when the federal government has already announced a takeoff grant of N2b?”
She further insists “there is nothing like that. The institution will start at Ayede.”
Government Technical College, Ogbomoso, located at High School Area, founded along with four others by the Oyo state government in 1979, i.e. Orita-Aperin in Ibadan; Awe, Oyo; Iseyin and Saki, was recently reinvigorated through the intervention of the Oyo State Educational Trust Fund (Oyo ETF).
The interventions by the Oyo ETF helped in meeting some of the challenges facing the college which included infrastructural deficiency, inadequate laboratories and workshops and power supply.
As a result of the intervention classrooms were renovated and new ones were built; also science laboratories and workshops and an exam hall were constructed. This is just as Business/Basic Department and the ICT block were renovated and a mini-sports complex built.
