Hundreds of people thronged the palace of Ijeru today to benefit from the two-day free medical service being offered by Onpetu of Ijeruland, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran Lagbami Osekun III. Partnering Oba Oyediran is Ogbomoso South local government.
In a chat with The Insight, Oba Oyediran said the programme was a contribution to relieving the burden of the many people suffering from one ailment or the other but are incapacitated by lack of finance to receive the best of medical treatment, disclosing people would be screened for various sicknesses and that those needing surgeries would be operated upon.
He added that eye problems and dental issues would also be attended to.
Onpetu stated the programme was borne out of his concern and others’ for a healthy living among the people.
“We are conducting a two-day free medical services, to screen people for all forms of sicknesses and those who are supposed to be operated upon will be operated upon, those who deserve eye glasses will be given glasses, those who need to be examined dentally will be examined and treated.
“To the glory of God it is packaged by individuals who are concerned about the community and I liaised with the caretaker chairman of Ogbomoso South local government who gave his consent and the support.”
The traditional ruler informed that the medical personnel styled ”Check Medical Mission,” consisted “of a group of volunteers, missionaries, whose patron I am, I just seized the influence to bring them in, they are from Ibadan, from Lagos, and some are resident in Ogbomoso.”
The caretaker chairman of Ogbomoso South local government, Hon Oyedokun Niyi Timothy, disclosing that the Oyo state government’s free medical and surgical service held in the council area recently could only benefit few people because it was a day’s programme, stressed that he was quick to accede when Oba Oyediran told him about the free medical exercise being facilitated.
“I will say I am partnering with Kabiyesi on this as it is taking place under my jurisdiction. About a week or two ago we were able to do one from the state government and when kabiyesi told me he had a vision like this, and said not many people were able to participate in the last one, I said it would be great. It would be the same; operations, eyes treatment and other medical conditions.”
Also reacting, Chief Debo Adedokun, a radio presenter, who was at the venue, commended Kabiyesu Onpetu for the effort noting that the large turnout is an indication that many have been suffering in silence because of poverty.
Adedokun, also known as Moinmoin Lawore, now expressed appreciation to the facilitator, Oba Oyediran as well as Ogbomoso South local government’s caretaker chairman, Hon Oyedokun, enthusing, “Those expecting death are now receiving treatment because of the free medical service. It is praiseworthy.”
