Prince Felix Akande feted at 70 – achievements as chairman revisited

Prince Felix Adebayo Akande, the debonair former Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South local government, Arowomole, Oyo state, was recently feted to commemorate his 70th birthday, which was marked in November 26.

The celebration held on December 27 at his posh residence in Ogbomoso was a classy event that reeked of elegance.

Guests consisting of a few family, friends and associates excitingly glamorized the controlled grand party.

Attired beautifully in a lemon ofi sewn in agbada, and with his US-based wife, Princess Felicia Faderera, they made a perfect match making them truly the cynosure of all attention as hosts.

They danced, were spoken glowingly of, guests treated to assorted meals and drinks, it was a parade of grandeur.

Guests included Chief Tunji Adegoke, the Bobagbimo of Ogbomosoland, and who is CEO of the popular Tunji Home of Fashion; Dr Oladejo Akanni, CEO of Akanni Bookstore; and Prince Tunde Aremu, CEO of Irorun Agbe Farm Booster.

The party was as memorable and remarkable as his achievements in office as chairman.

The former bank top executive made some landmark achievements which have made him an icon and one of the best chairmen the council ever had.

As his 70th birthday milestone is celebrated we have taken time to recall some of his accomplishments, sourced from our archive. He was council boss between 2007 and 2010.

For the record, some of the things he did include support for tourism, provision of street lights, supply of computer sets and its accessories to schools, massive road construction and maintenance (asphaltic laying of High School/Saka Balogun Close, 7th Day Adventist Church/Mikky area/Alao Akala junction, Alamu street, California/Ajegunle, Baptist High School area etc), beautification of round abouts, drug supplies to health centres, water supply through borehole provision, construction of buildings in schools, disbursement of loans to students and car loan to staff of the council, sponsorship of workers to workshops and seminars, subsidies to farmers, purchase of cars for the local government and traditional rulers, repair of utility vehicles like waste disposal vehicles, various empowerment programmes etc.

To his eternal credit also, he built an event centre in the council secretariat – Lagbami Osekun Civic Centre – which is a source of revenue for the local government today, and built a legislative building at the council secretariat named Adebayo Akala-Akala Legislative Building.

We wish him long life, health and greater prosperity.
