Jubilation as another senator begins construction of long-abandoned road

There was a carnival-like atmosphere in Ohafia LGA of Abia North on Friday following the commencement of the construction of the long-neglected Ndi-Orieke Ohafia rural road facilitated by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu representing the zone in the 10th Assembly.
The latest infrastructural project comes amid the ongoing construction and renovation of 50 school structures.
Checks by Daily Sun also confirmed that works had begun at full scale with the initial grading of the road and the presence of other heavy-duty equipment brought by the road contractor.
During the flag-off ceremony, stakeholders and constituents of the community took turns to appreciate the lawmaker.

According to them, over the past years, politicians made a pledge to execute the road but had failed to do so; they acknowledged that Kalu is the only politician to have fulfilled his election promises.
Taking to his social media page the former governor expressed his delight over the road project, promising to do more.

“This road is of significant importance to me—just like the Abia, Akanu Ukwu, Ndi Uduma Awoke, and Isiugwu Ohafia roads.
“Even more propelling is listening to the community leaders narrate how politicians campaigned with the road without executing it.”

Former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu in a statement on Friday lauded Sen Kalu.
He described the project as a monumental endeavour which marks a significant milestone in the development of the community.
According to him the road, when completed, will transform daily lives and unlock new opportunities for economic growth and social progress.
Kalu’s commitment to the well-being of his constituents according to Uchendu is evident in the project, which he said will not only improve accessibility but also enhance the overall quality of life for everyone in the region.
The statement read partly; “The people of Ndi-Orieke Ohafia and Ohafia in general are filled with immense joy and excitement, knowing that your leadership continues to prioritize their needs and aspirations.
“Your vision and dedication are deeply appreciated, and we are confident that this project will have a lasting positive impact on the lives of all who live in and travel through Ndi-Orieke Ohafia. Thank you, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for your tireless efforts, your generosity, and your steadfast leadership.”
Earlier at the flag-off ceremony, the traditional ruler of the community HRH Ezeogo Uja showered praises on Kalu. The Royal father mentioned other projects executed by Kalu during his tenure as governor of the state notably the Free Education policy.
He said; “Send our gratitude to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, if possible we would have loved him to return as governor of Abia state.

“We benefited a lot from him, the only transformer in this community was installed by him as governor and our children were provided with free education from primary to secondary level.”
He further assured the contractor of their safety and support of the community, urging him to adhere to the quality and estimates of the project.
Representative of the Youths Nwankwo Kalu expressed gratitude to Senator Kalu while assuring of the cooperation of the youths.
“We the youths are grateful and we shall give you our full support. We the youths will provide you with security and manual labour where necessary. There was never a time Senator Orji Kalu forgot the people of Ndi Orieke, he has never neglected us anytime we call on him,” he said.
