Fear judgement not death, cleric charges as 52-yr old Dupe Akinola is laid to rest

Mrs. Dupe Funmilola Akinola (nee Olugbodi) who passed away Monday August 19, 2024, during an illness at the Bowen University Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso was laid to rest Tuesday after a funeral service at Stadium Baptist Church.

“We should not fear death but judgement. Death at times is a good experience because it frees us from suffering, it brings comfort to the deceased, eases anxiety engulfing the family of the deceased and covers our shame,” Rev’d Dr Laide Sanusi remarked during his exhortation titled, “Death and judgement: Which one do you fear?” at the service.

Rev’d Sanusi who is minister-in-charge of the church espousing the Book of Hebrew chapter nine verse 27, noted the deceased was resilient during the period of her protracted illness “but she finally succumbed, l pray God will comfort the family.”
He told the family members, “We feel it the way you feel her loss but she fought a good battle,” noting her death is the kind of death that brings relief, to the deceased and to the people who cared for the person.
Underlining the difference between death and judgement, he affirmed, “Death is fair sometimes but judgement is cruel. So, we should not feel too sad when someone dies but to be more concerned about what kind of judgement awaits us at our own death. Remember, judgement has two sides, conviction or acquittals.
“Will you be handed fair judgement when you appear before the throne of judgement? That is my concluding remark. Death unifies us but judgement does not and it is scary because we don’t know who the Judge will be unlike what we have here on earth when we can know the Judge. We should not fear death but be concerned more about what we do that will follow us to the throne of judgement.”
The deceased was described as a good woman who served the Lord actively when she was agile.
Of Gbogbo compound Gaa-Masifa, Ogbomoso, she graduated from the University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) with Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education. She worked as a teacher in some private schools and was employed as an N-Power teacher at Owode Community Grammar School Ogbomoso at a time.
She is survived by her husband Mr. Timothy Akindele Akinola, also a secondary school teacher and upwardly mobile children.
May her soul rest in peace.
