Soun: Appeal Court fireworks begin today

The Appeal Court will begin sitting today Thursday in an appeal filed by the Oyo state governor Engr. Seyi Makinde challenging the removal of the Soun of Ogbomosoland Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye by a lower court in 2023 . The Oba and the kingmakers similarly filed an appeal against the judgment.

The motions with Appeal Nos.CA/IB/24/24 and CA/IB/115/2024 between the Chief S.O. Otolorin (JP) & 5 ORS and Prince Muhammed Kabir Olaoye & 9 ORS and between the Executive Governor of Oyo state & 2 ORS and Prince Muhammed Kabir Olaoye & 9 ORS, respectively, will be listed for hearing before the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, New Adeoyo State Hospital, off Ring Road Ibadan.

The Oba is seeking a reversal of the judgement – suit no HOG/27/22 – delivered at an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso, on the grounds of among others inconsistency in judgments by the same judge delivered in two similar cases relating to the emergence of the monarch.
