Examiner cries out to NECO boss over nonpayment of marking dues
An examiner with the National Examinations Council (NECO) has appealed to the examination body to pay examiners who participated in the marking exercise this year.
This is according to an open letter written by a victim of the delayed payment, Mr Fatai Adewuyi, who hails from Ogbomoso, and made available to Ogbomoso Insight.
The letter reads in full: “The establishment of NECO as a national examinations board is laudable and commendable. Evidently, it broke the monopoly being enjoyed by WAEC and threw windows of opportunities to Nigerian candidates seeking admissions to tertiary institutions with its certificates. Its establishment has also created employments for many Nigerians. Having said all these, in recent times however, precisely from two years ago, it has not been fulfilling its mandate of prompt payment of examiners or markers of its examinations. The marking due of last yeary Senior Secondary Certificate Examination conducted by it was not paid on time and the same thing is being experienced this year too, we have not been paid up till now. The most disgusting thing nonetheless is that it has released the results of the candidates while we that marked the papers have not been paid our marking dues! The registrar of the council should please look into this and address it urgently as the sweat of a worker should not dry before he is paid. We appreciate your good work as the results are released on time but do well to pay us too. Long live NECO.”
