The reconstruction of the collapsed culvert at the Alesinloye Community Hall, Osupa, Ogbomoso, has begun, as promised by Mr. Femi Onireti.
Onireti, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, promised two weeks ago to rebuild the culvert when he passed by the road during the commissioning of the street light he put up in the area.
The culvert had caved in and so had become impassable to motorists, who have had to take a detour and most times taken advantage of by street urchins in the area who piled stones at a portion to allow passage of vehicles at a fee.
As of today, the international businessman had mobilized contractor to the site and to begin work.
When ogbomosoinsightonline.com visited the site this afternoon, the debris had been removed from the ditch preparatory to the concrete casting.
Onireti in a chat with ogbomosoinsightonline.com said the necessary factors were considered before the commencement of the project to ensure it is durable.
He statee, “We took into consideration the requirements for hydraulic performance, the elevation of the road and its embarkment as well as the volume of water that flows through the water course.
“We are always committed to quality and durability at Femi Onireti Foundation. We are putting there, reinforced concrete culvert, it has to be strong considering the volume of traffic on that road.”
Asked to state why he took on the project, the House of Representatives’ hopeful said, “People asked for help during the commissioning of the boreholes and solar street light done on the street, and we can’t refuse them since it is within our capacity and scope.”
The culvert construction is expected to be completed this week.
This adds to the numerous interventions he had made in bringing relief to the people of Ogbomoso.
It is recalled that he had provided six boreholes, provided street light, staged quiz competition, organzed empowerment programme and extended reliefs to patients at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, BUTH and Lepers Colony, in the last one and a half years.
