Ogbomoso: Agony as new Sawmill area, neighbouring communities cut off as rain sweeps away bridge

Sawmillers, plank dealers and residents of New Sawmill area in Ogbomoso, Oyo state, have cried out to government to come to their rescue as the bridge that connects them to the main city has been washed away by a torrential rain on Monday evening.

 

The little bridge by a cashew warehouse just beyond the overhead bridge after Ogbomoso Girls High School standing over a stream got pulled off by flood creating a major dilemma for the residents.

Other communities affected in the axis include Igbo Odan, Ifesowapo, Temidire, Atako, Abogunde and many other communities in Pakiotan layout.

 

Hon Gbade Olojede, a former secretary of Ogbomoso North local government, who lives in the area, speaking with ogbomosoinsightonline.com made a frantic appeal, “Government should come to our aid without further delay. The development is catastrophic for us as we now have to take longer routes to reach the main city. Government should please come to our aid in fixing the bridge.”

Other residents also called on government to quickly intervene”to ameliorate our plight. We beg the chairman of Ogbomoso North local government Hon George Ogunlade, to come to our rescue. That road is very important, it’s a business hub, used to transport farm produce aside being areas that thousands of people live in,” they said.
