Oyo Senator Yunus Akintunde to deliver UNIUYO VC Prof Ndaeyo’s 2nd Public Lecture

The 2nd Public Lecture of Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo, Vice Chancellor of University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, is slated to come up in September.
This is according to a statement signed by the chairman of the planning committee of the event Professor Isaac Ayanyinka Ayandele, and made available to ogbomosoinsightonline.com.
Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, who is the Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, is guest lecturer for the event.

Recall Professor Ayanyinka Ayandele a past Chairman Committee of Deans in the University, delivered the first Public Lecture, which had as theme, “Planning for Retirement: The Entrepreneurship Option.”
Senator Akintunde, Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, will speak on the theme, “Addressing Energy Poverty in Nigeria: Insights and implications for Rural Areas.”
The lecture will hold at the institution’s main campus, at the 1, 000 seater capacity TETFUND auditorium.
Professor Nyaudoh Ukpabio Ndaeyo
Prof Ndaeyo, born on March 25, 1961, attended the Cross River State School of Agriculture, Obubra for his Ordinary National Diploma, OND, in Agriculture, which he passed at distinction level in 1986. He also attended the erstwhile University of Cross River State (now University of Uyo) in 1987 to study Agronomy in the Faculty of Agriculture and graduated with first class honours division in 1991.
Nyaudoh Ndaeyo who also earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Agronomy in 1994 and a Doctorate (Ph.D) degree in Farming Systems in 2000 both from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, was first employed on November 06, 1992 as Graduate Assistant with the University of Uyo; 18 years later, he became a Professor of Farming Systems in the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture on October 01, 2010.
Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo is a seasoned teacher and researcher, who has taught over thirty courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and has also supervised over 68 undergraduate projects and 54 graduate theses including doctoral degree students.

During his career in the University, he has served as a lecturer, researcher, examinations officer, co-ordinator of several academic activities and programmes in the Department of Crop Science, as well as chairman of several committees in the department.
He has served the university in various other capacities including as Adviser to students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Head of Department (2006 – 2009), Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture (2016 – 2018) and Chairman, Committee of Deans. Also, he served either as Chairman or member of Faculty and University Committees. In his services which spans beyond the University of Uyo, Prof. Ndaeyo is a renowned resource person and consultant to both government and private sectors just as he is a facilitator and external examiner to other Universities.
He is a member of several professional bodies including Crop Science Society of Nigeria, CSSN; Farm Management Association of Nigeria, FMAN; Nigerian Rural Sociological Association, NRSA and Agricultural Society of Nigeria, ASN, among others.
Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, who until his appointment as VC was Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration in the University, is a prolific publisher of books, book chapters and articles in learned journals and proceedings of conferences. He has 21 conference papers and 152 journal articles and numerous book chapters to his credit.
Senator Dr Yunus Abiodun Akintunde
The guest lecturer, Dr Akintunde was born on the 6th of March, 1962 in the ancient town of Oyo, Oyo state. He had his primary and secondary education at Ansar-ud-deen Model Primary School and Oranyan Grammar School in Oyo respectively.
In furtherance of his education, he proceeded to The Polytechnic, Ibadan where he obtained National Diploma certificate in Physics with Electronics. Thereafter, he proceeded to the Lagos State University, LASU, where he obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) respectively. Later, he went to the University of Ibadan where he got an M.Sc. in Energy Studies and Ph.D. in Energy and Environment, the first of its kind in Nigeria.
As a grassroots personality, Akintunde’s love for his people is legendary, and for his altruistic and philanthropic activities, he has had the privilege of holding several political appointments which included but not limited to the following Commissioner, Oyo state Civil Service Commission between 1999-2003; Commissioner for Works and Transport of Oyo State between 2011-2012; and Executive Assistant to the Governor of Oyo state between 2014-2015.
Dr Akintunde was a Patron of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Oyo state Chapter) and the first President, Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law Students Association (CPEELSA), University of Ibadan.
He was honored with Meritorious Service Award by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (Ibadan Branch) in 2012 and became a Registered Environmental Manager in 2016. He became a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in June 2023.
Akintunde, who is also the Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, is a thoroughbred politician and intellectual who through various programs and projects has succeeded in bringing the gown to the town. Among his publications is his seminal work on Energy Studies and management in Nigeria titled “Dimension of Energy poverty and rural electrification in Nigeria.”

The Chairman Senate Committee on Environment was decorated as one of the UI @ 75 Ambassadors in November 2023. In January 2024, Senator Yunus Akintunde was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Special Meritorious Service Award on Environmental Management by the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
