National strike: Oyo NUT pulls out directs teachers to resume

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Oyo state wing has directed teachers in the state to go back to classes as from Thursday.

The directive is contained in a statement signed by Amuda R. Adegoke, assistant state secretary (for state secretary) obtained by ogbomosoinsightonline.com.
The statement commended teachers for the solidarity shown in complying with the industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NUC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the national level but noted that the harmonious relationship between the union and the Oyo state government exemplified by dedication to workers’ welfare on the part of the latter necessitated the review of the strike.
The union consequently instructed teachers to return to classes tomorrow Thursday.

“I am instructed to humbly appreciate our teeming members for their loyalty and dedication to the cause of our highly respected labour centre, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, particularly for their total compliance accorded its earlier directive on the on-going industrial action as declared by our parent body, the Nigeria Labour Congress in conjunction with the Trade Union Congress.
“Sincerely, your swift response to the directive of the NLC through the two day initial withdrawal of services is highly commendable and of the highest estimation.
“To be honest, the prosecution of this on-going strike action is consequential and it is not being directed to underscore the present administration in the State whose impact, in recent times, as per good welfare packages is being felt by the generality of workers in the State.
“Let me quickly reiterate that the crux of the matter that culminated into this industrial action bothered on NLC demand for good welfare packages for the workers, the real “Creators of the State’s Wealths”, and in this direction, our amiable Governor is passionately trying his best to the advantage of the Oyo State workforce, teachers inclusive.
“Having expressed the required solidarity with our national body as dictated in our earlier release, and taking into consideration the existence of harmonious working relationship between the entire labour movement in the State and the government of the day, I am directed to officially inform our teeming members to report to their duty posts by Thursday, 15 November, 2023.”
