Ayede Poly now has over 1, 400 students, to begin 30 more courses – Rector, seeks more intervention

Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo state has matriculated a total of 574 students into its 12 National Diploma (ND) programmes.
This is as it is stated that the student population in the school has now exceeded 1, 400, the largest among its peers, and is on the verge of commencing 30 new academic programmes.
Speaking during the 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony, held at the institution’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, Thursday, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, underscored the importance of the matriculation, praising the hard work and dedication of the new students.
“Today, you were formally matriculated into this esteemed Polytechnic community,” he stated, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to providing quality technical and vocational education tailored to the needs of a dynamic job market.
“Since its establishment in March 2021, the institution has rapidly evolved into a leader among Nigeria’s emerging polytechnic institutions. With over 1,400 students enrolled, the Polytechnic has achieved the highest enrollment figures among its peers, reflecting strong trust from students and their families.”

Dr. Abdul-Hameed highlighted the Polytechnic’s growth trajectory, noting that it currently offers 12 accredited National Diploma (ND) programmes, with plans for expansion well underway.
He announced that Office Technology and Management programme is on the verge of commencing and that 29 additional programmes are under review for accreditation.
“Currently, 44 students are benefiting from the NELFUND loan scheme, with further efforts ongoing to secure funding for many more,” he added.
Speaking on reports of a building collapse at the Polytechnic, Dr Abdul-Hameed dismissed the claims as misleading, clarifying that no structure had collapsed on any of the institution’s campuses.
“What was falsely reported was a minor structural defect involving a cantilever under construction. The contractor is already addressing the issue under strict supervision,” he explained, urging the public to disregard the misinformation aimed at tarnishing the Polytechnic’s reputation.
While commending President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s support for education, the Rector urged the Federal Government to increase funding, particularly for infrastructure and research.
“We seek special intervention programmes to support our expansion efforts and the construction of access roads to improve connectivity,” he appealed.
He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu; Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde; Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje; Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund ((TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono; Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede and other critical stakeholders on their contributions towards the Polytechnic’s growth.
He thanked Governor Makinde for his support and sought further assistance from the state government.
Dr Abdul-Hameed advised the newly admitted students to embrace discipline, diligence, and innovation, urging them to take full advantage of the institution’s resources.
“The Polytechnic has provided you with the resources and a conducive environment to succeed. It is now your responsibility to make the most of this opportunity,” he stated.
Dignitaries at the event included the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje, represented by Dr John Onyebuchi, Deputy Director, NBTE Southwest Zonal Office; Federal Ministry of Education (FME) represented by Mallam Bala Adamu; the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye JP, Ajiboye III.

Other notable attendees included the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Engr. (Dr) Sani Man Yahya, represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Alhaji I. A. Lawal; the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Engr. (Dr.) Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin, represented by the Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr Mulikatu Aliu; the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Iwo, Prof. R. A. The institution took off in 2021 along with five others during the administration of President Muhammed Buhari.
