How Dr Are Baba Gbenro, vet doctor-turned drama gospeller, died – last statement (PHOTOS)

Dr Moses Korede Are is dead. Popularly called Baba Gbenro, an alias he earned from a role he played in one of his numerous films, he died at exactly 8:15am today Thursday at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso. He was 59.
According to Rev’d Niyi Adebayo, lead pastor of True Worshippers Church, Dr Are passed away after suffering liver cirrhosis, which became cancerous.

Rev’d Adebayo, also the proprietor of Zoe Group of Schools who was with the deceased until his last moments said his passage was devastating.
“He died at 15 minutes past eight this morning in a private ward at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. He battled with liver cirrhosis for some time. He was taken for treatment at a specialist hospital in Lagos and at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. He was admitted at the LTH for the past 7 or 8 days,” Rev’d Adebayo said l.

“We planned to fly him to India or Dubai for further treatment but the liver became cancerous and they said because it had become cancerous there was nothing that could be done.”
Asked to narrate his last moments, Rev’d Adebayo, whose church celebrated the deceased few weeks ago, disclosed, “His final statement is, ‘whatever happens, God, you will remain God.’ After that he said, ‘Bro Niyi, l want to rest.’ Five minutes after that, he gave up the ghost.”

Adebayo described him as a “fantastic and God fearing individual.”
The late gospel drama actor and producer trained as a veterinary doctor but shortly after graduation from university answered the call into the ministry to as a drama gospeller.
He founded Calvary Drama Ministry in Ogbomoso, which produced many gospel drama movies. His ministry metamorphosed in name on occasions and until his death was known as Calvary Movies Drama Ministry. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of Calvary Movies Television.
He acted in Mount Zion Drama Ministry films among others and attained further fame when he acted as one of the main actors in the popular Mount Zion series titled “Abbatoir,” which earned him the nickname “Baba Gbenro,” by which many of his fans called him.
He is survived by wife and two children, a boy and a girl. Burial arrangements is to be announced later by the family. His remains are presently in the morgue.
