4 persons died in the night of Thursday through Friday, at Emaayo/Seminary area, Ogbomoso, as an articulated vehicle (trailer) fell in a ditch, a badly damaged portion of the old Ogbomoso – Oyo road, causing the death of four persons and injuring of several others.

The passengers mainly people of northern origins were thrown off the heavy duty vehicle and were trapped there till Friday morning.

The truck whose registration number could not be ascertained was coming from Oyo direction heading north when it met with the disaster.

When ogbomosoinsightonline.com visited the scene there were many sympathizers, with several lamenting the poor state of the road.

“That road continues to claim precious lives and property on a daily basis,” an angry sympathizer who refused to give his name told Ogbomoso Insight. “Several appeals have been made to governments and other relevant agencies at both state and federal levels to repair the road in a standard way and ensure the new Ibadan – Ilorin highway is completed. But they have turned deaf ears, unresponsive and unconcerned about what people go through. God will judge them harshly.”

The damaged portion within Ogbomoso metropolis is less than 500m long, yet, despite the cries for government’s intervention spanning almost a year now, it’s not received attention. Several communal interventions have only offered temporary relief.

“That is a demonstration of government leaders’ mindset in Nigeria, they lack empathy for their people, they are arrogant behaving like gods. What drives their intention are personal gains and glories. The pain of the people means nothing to them,” another agitated man, who gave his name simply as Kolapo, said, adding, “If federal government does not respond why is the state government unresponsive as well?

“The Oyo-Iseyin road is a federal government road, its reconstruction was executed by the present Oyo state government when federal government refused to do so. That’s a road stretching tens of kilometers, why can’t the state government come to our rescue in this one too, a stretch that’s less than 500m? As if Ogbomoso adds no value, as if they have an axe to grind with Ogbomoso.”
