Jubilation as Tinubu set to inaugurate committee on national minimum wage

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will tomorrow Tuesday January 30 inuaguarate the tripartite committee on national minimum wage.
This is according to a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen. George Akume, fnim, CON.
The letter titled, “Inauguration of the tripartite committee on national minimum wage,” states, ” I write to inform you that Mr. President has approved the inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage. The inauguration will take place on Tuesday, 30th January 2024 at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja at 12.00noon prompt.”
The committee is expected to consider and recommend a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers in view of the removal of fuel subsidy which has occasioned increase in cost.of living.

To cushion the effects the federal government introduced a N35,000 wage award.for federal workers, pending when the new minimum wage would be effected.
This wage award initiative has been adopted by some states of the federation including Oyo state which is currently paying N25, 000 to its workers.
