Alaafin: Court strikes out kingmakers’ suit against Makinde, new suit filed

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Awe, Afijio local government area of the state, Thursday, struck out a suit filed by five kingmakers.against Governor Seyi Makinde and others over the alleged plan to abort the process of selection of a new Alaafin.
The claimants in the suit who were however absent at the hearing are Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola; Lagunna of Oyo, High Chief Wakeel Oyedepo; Akinniku of Oyo, High Chief Amuda Yusuf; Areago Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Waheed Oyetunji and Alapo of Oyo, who is also Warrant Officer for Alaapini of Oyo, Chief Gbadebo Mufutau.

While ruling on the suit, Justice Ladiran Akintola, struck it out following its withdrawal by counsel to the claimants.
Meanwhile, the claimants have filed a fresh suit, which the presiding judge said the date for its hearing would be communicated to the parties involved.
Recall the Alaafin stool became vacant sequel to the demise of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Olayiwola III, who reigned for 52 years and died at the age of 83 in April 2022.
