Maira scarcity: Police to parley youth organizations, banker in Ogbomoso, warn troublemakers

To avert breakdown of law and order in Ogbomoso over acute shortage of naira notes (both old and new), the Police Area Command headquarters, Ogbomoso, Oyo state, has scheduled a meeting for tomorrow, Monday, February 6, to be attended by the representatives of the Bankers Forum and leaders of some youth organizations including Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF) and Ogbomoso Parapo Youth Wing as well as representatives of security agents.

Giving reason for the parley, a press release titled, “Naira Scarcity: No to mayhem in Ogbomoso” and signed by OCYF president Rev’d Peter Olaleye, states, “The meeting has become imperative in view of the riots engulfing cities over the unavailability of the new naira notes as well as old ones. We have seen Nigerians pouring out into the streets venting their anger and frustrations and these have led to destruction of public properties and loss of lives.”

Continuing, the release adds, “It is in the light of this that the parley is being organized to urge the bank workers in the city to up their game in making new naira notes available to the citizenry.

“We also want to urge the people to be patient and endure a little more as government, CBN and commercial banks are working tirelessly to alleviate the problem associated with the naira scarcity.”

Youths and those planning demonstrations in the city are then warned to desist from causing mayhem to avoid it being hijacked by hoodlums.

“Violence is never the best option especially when we have listening leaders. All hands are now on the deck to resolve the logjam.

“The police warn those planning to stage protest in Ogbomoso to abandon the plan. That will only add to our travail moreover when we have few weeks to commencement of general elections.”

ogbomosoinsightonline.com recalls that some cities including Ibadan Oyo state capital and Warri in Delta state have erupted in crisis over scarcity of new naira notes and fuel.

The riots have continued to escalate as people continue to queue on banks without being able to obtain neither the new naira notes nor the old ones.
