Mourning as principal dies in accident along Ogbomoso-Oyo road, 7 mths to retirement

The untimely death of a school principal in Ogbomoso last week Thursday (June 16) has thrown into deep mourning family, colleagues and friends, as the deceased is described as a good man.

The departed, Pastor Emmanuel Olusola Abisoye, who was principal of Olorunda/Oniguguru Community Grammar School in Oriire local government area of Oyo state, was on his way to Ibadan on an official assignment when the commercial vehicle he was travelling in suffered a burst tyre, at Adetunji village near Ipeba, which ignited the fatal crash.

According to information gathered by, he was on his way to the NECO office on a mission to further drive correction of the school’s address in the SSSCE certificate issued students of the school.

“For a number of years now, the address of the school on the SSSCE certificates of students who wrote NECO in the school was wrong – instead of Community Secondary School Olorunda, Ibadan is being written as the location of the school. This has been on for some years and efforts to effect a change had not yielded positive results,” a supervisor at the Oyo State Post Primary School Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) zonal office, Ogbomoso told

jLate Abisoye, who was freshly appointed principal last year (after being vice principal for 9 years), and who was to retire from service next January 14, was thus going to Ibadan, to further lodge complaint.

He died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Ogbomoso; two other people reportedly involved in the accident, a corps member and a secondary school teacher are still receiving treatment.

“His death saddens everybody,” a principal colleague, who however pleaded anonymity, said.” He was a man of peace who would not hurt a fly.”

Many who had worked with him also described him in glowing terms all noting that “he was quiet, gentle, accommodating and respectful.”

Chairman of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Zone 5, Ogbomoso, Mr. Simon Ajala, also stated, “Pastor Abisoye E.O. was a very gentle and easy going man. He was calm to a fault and active in service. He was very convivial in relationship with colleagues and very loving.”

A fervent man of God of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, he was said to have preached in the vehicle before his transition. In its tribute, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oriire local government branch, submitted, “Honestly, his demise has created a vacuum which cannot be forgotten in the talk and chalk profession. You were on a journey to assist your students before you answered the call of your creator. We take solace in the testimonies we heard about your last assignment in the vehicle to fulfill the mandate of God upon you by preaching, counseling and even admonishing your co-passengers during your last trip that eventually changed your address.”

Buried on Thursday, June 23, he was survived by wife and children.
