My empowerment items not part of your inheritance, Captain Ajao slams Lamiju Akala

You are an ingrate, Lamiju fumes

Brickbat and blackmail have lately dogged the relationship between two erstwhile political allies, Hon Jacob Ajao Adejumo (representing Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire federal constituency) and the scion of late former governor of Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Hon. Olamijuwonlo. reported weeks ago that the two gladiators are at loggerheads over empowerment items belonging to “Captain Ajao,” as Hon Jacob Adejumo is fondly called, which are kept in the residence of the Randa residence of the Akalas before the demise of the late political juggernaut, till when he would hold an empowerment programme.

However, the programme was not held due to what was called inexplicable procrastinations before the sudden demise of the senior Akala on January 12 this year.

Event thereafter took a different turn as the two former allies (Lamiju was said to have introduced Ajao to his father which facilitated his emergence as Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate for the House of Representatives in 2019, and eventual victory), but this time around have found themselves at cross purposes, locked in a fierce political contest. While Captain Ajao is eyeing a return to the Green Chamber, Lamiju, a former executive chairman of Ogbomoso North local government, is also coveting the seat. Both in the same All Progressive Congress (APC) until now, Ajao was forced to leave the party when it was obvious the pendulum of the party ticket was swinging towards the politician commonly called “Ojuoloore.” Lamiju later won the party’s ticket for the Ogbomoso federal constituency. Ajao defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and has picked the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives. On that basis, they both have a date with history.

Meanwhile, recently, Ajao moved to evacuate his empowerment items from Opadoyin Alao Akala Lodge, an attempt that ran into a brick wall as political supporters in Akala’s residence prevented him from doing so. This led to a crisis leading to part of the items being looted. Even, it was learnt, an arrangement of a sharing formula (70-30 percent) was not satisfactory as anger boiled over sequel to the defection of Ajao from APC. Mediations by party elders for amicable resolution have not yielded positive results leading to an invitation of the two “combatants” by the Area Commander of Owode Police Area Command.

It was amid this hullabaloo that Captain Ajao issued a strong worded petition, which surfaced online few days ago. It was a damning piece in which Lamiju was represented in uncharitable terms. He was told pointblank that the empowerment items were not part of the inheritance bequeathed to him by his late father just as he was described as an “anarchist” and “hijacker.”

The (unedited) piece titled, “Issues that affects Captain (Hon) Ajao Adejumo empowerment programme,” reads, “’History will not be kind to those who failed to act in the face of injustice, maladministration and oppression’ Prof. Wole Soyinka.

“The present political atmosphere is Ogbomoso requires the attention of men with good conscience, of men whose sense of objectivity have not been compromised by emotional attachment and primordial boundaries. Captain Ajao was elected by the good people of Ogbomoso South, North and Orire Federal Constituency in 2019, how can Captain Ajao not appreciate the impacts and contributions of late Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala to that resounding victory. In the spirit of the goodwill and contributions of our late political icon, Captain Ajao decided to pack his supposed empowerment items in the premises of the late political icon with an agreement to jointly choose a date for the empowerment programme.

“The untimely death of our political pathfinder has caused a lot of internal wrangling within the caucus of the departed leader which has made some important political player’s to find comfort and space in another political tent.

“Why would Olamiju Alao Akala now decided to hijacked those materials for his own electoral journey?, he claimed Hon Ajao took the mandate of APC into SDP, while he has forgotten that he once took the mandate of APC into the ADP. Consequent upon his resolve not to abide by the agreement which was reached with those that are controlling the levers of power in his father’s caucus, Hon Ajao has deem it fit to approach necessary security agencies to call Lamiju Akala into order and let him realized that Captain Ajao empowerment materials is never part of the will is bequeath to him.

“Hon Ajao will like to appeal to well meaning individual in the town to call this anarchist into order and kindly abide by the term of sharing formula. Thanks.”

But responding, Lamiju described Ajao as an ingrate dodging his responsibility as a representative of the people, stating he had not stopped him from retrieving his so-called empowerment items.

He notes, “This is to clarify and urge the good people of Ogbomoso to debunk the erroneous acclamation recently made against my personality by Hon. Jacob Ajao Adejumo

“It’s unbelievable that the present Ogbomoso representative will stoop this low to libel my innocent being of hijacking his empowerment items after I’ve given him the approval to pack them.

“It’s to be noted, however, that he is not only dodging the responsibility of empowering the respected people who sweated for his political success, but also the people who refused to let the fruit of their labour be moved from their sight.

I, therefore, urge the esteemed people of Ogbomoso to disregard the treacherous proclamation and see it as an item waged against my personality.”
