A leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Ogbomoso has stated that members of the group do not rely on guns or other weapons to engage the rampaging killer herdsmen and bandits.

In a telephone interview with ogbomosoinsightonline.com.ng, the OPC leader, who however pleaded anonymity, hinted that the group was in possession of items deadlier than the AK-47 rifles used by the criminals, “We are not afraid of their guns whether AK-47 or not, what we have is deadlier, Yorubas have their means of fighting wars, we are equal to the task.”

Responding to the brutal assault by terrorists on a church recently in Owo, Ondo state, he alleged that security agencies’ failure to mobilize to the scene while the assault was ongoing smacked of government’s complicity. “Where were the soldiers? Where were the police? Where were Amotekun operatives?” He queried.

He then assured that OPC would respond to such dire situation should it happen in Ogbomoso if called upon however regretting “we lack assistance, we don’t have operation vehicles, we don’t have motorcycles which can be used for swift response to emergency situations.”

He added that though the condition under which they operate is unfavourable as highlighted above – spending their personal resources – they would be alert to the danger posed by the criminals, asserting the group would continue to complement other security agencies in protecting the land from bandits.
