The emergence of Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye has expectedly generated rumpus and excitement among the Ogbomoso people especially depending on the side one belongs. The numbers of those who passionately want the kingmakers’ nominee and those diametrically opposed to it are growing in leaps and bounds and creating tension. The bone of contention actually is the emergence of a Crown Prince, Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye. Those opposed to his emergence hinged their grievance on the fact that his name was not in the eleven names submitted to the kingmakers by the Olaoye Ruling House’s screening committee. They are alleging that his name and some others’ were “smuggled” in, in connivance with the management of the Ogbomoso North local government, who acted as observers while the process was ongoing.
It is in the light of the above that the screening committee members constituted by a representative of each of the recognized ten branches of the Oloaye ruling house caused a petition to be written to the Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, protesting the emergence of Ghandi and praying him not to approve his nomination. Also, five of the candidates forwarded by the family wrote a protest to the governor asking him to reject Ghandi as Soun-designate.
Meanwhile, ogbomosoinsightonline.com has obtained the eleven names submitted to the kingmakers by the screening committee constituted by the family and the list of the twenty three candidates the kingmakers screened.
But a source has said that the family actually went beyond its bounds by going ahead to screen the aspirants, “Its duty in this regard is limited to presenting names of all interested qualified princes to the kingmakers, it is not its duty to screen out any prince as long as a prince is a bonafide member of the family from the male line. Screening out any candidate is assuming a responsibility beyond its powers, it is illegitimate,” the source submitted.
This is what Governor Makinde will unravel and probably the court of law.
In the meantime, ogbomosoinsightonline.com publishes the eleven names as well as the twenty three names.
