Process for selection of new Soun begins
The process to select a new Soun of Ogbomosoland has begun. This is sequel to the passage of the last occupier of the throne, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III JP CON CFR on Sunday, December 12 2021.
According to investigations by ogbomosoinsightonline.com the Laoye Ruling House whose turn it is to produce the next Soun has asked interested princes to indicate their intent.
An authoritative source confirmed, “Yes, princes from the Laoye Ruling House have been indicating interest in becoming the next Soun.”
It was also learnt that each interested aspirant is to collect expression of interest form at a fee less than N500, 000 (five hundred thousand naira) contrary to what a medium quoted earlier.
Explaining the rationale for the collection of form the source noted, “That has become imperative, most of them when we had court cases they never contributed. So, it’s a way to raise money in the family.
‘More importantly it is to streamline the number of contestants. Soun’s children have become great in number and everybody wants to have a shot at the throne.”
The next stage after the expression of interest is screening to prune the number of aspirants and subsequently there will be voting by the family members which will be coordinated by the Mogaji (head) of the family. Character, connection, wealth, education, integrity, mien etc of each aspirant are parts of what will be considered.
“In the end the family will come up with a name or more than one in a situation they could not agree on a single person.
“The name or names will now be passed on to the kingmakers who will make the final selection that will be submitted to the state government for ratification,” ogbomosoinsightonline.com was further informed.
It was learnt that the number of aspirants has continued to increase thus a keen contest is envisaged.
