News reaching ogbomosoinsightonline.com has indicated that the Oyo state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has moved against erring teachers at the Nigerian Training Centre for the Blind, Ogbomoso.
It will be recalled that teachers of the school were alleged of various misdemeanours including diversion of foods donated to the blind students/pupils, cutting down of daily allowances meant for each student from N600 to N300 and so on. There is also the allegation of incessant rapes of female students by some of the teachers including blind male teachers. It is learnt that three of the teachers were earlier arrested and detained at Owode Divisional Police headquarters, Ogbomoso before being released on bail.
All these became exposed due to series of protests embarked upon by the victims of these cruelties.
Consequently the Oyo state government instituted a probe just as the police carried out investigations into the allegation of rape. Also, a youth group, Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum, OCYF, waded into the matter helping to grade the roads within the school (as bad roads was another of the complaint by the students) and initiated moves to look into the issue of food diversion. It was while doing this that the teachers including the suspected rapists attacked OCYF president, Rev’d Peter Olaleye, tearing his clothes in the process and heaping curses on him.
This unfortunate development generated furore, eliciting widespread anger against the teachers.
The Oyo state government could not overlook the matter any longer and so the gale of suspensions and transfers that hit the school today.
The three blind teachers alleged of raping have been suspended just as many of the teachers have been transferred to schools outside Ogbomoso, while some others were directed to report at the ministry in Ibadan tomorrow, it’s learnt.
Since the attack on OCYF president the teachers including the headmistress, Mrs. Rachael Adebiyi have been sending emissaries to appeal to the victim of their attack.
