Hon Jacob Ajao Adejumo, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire local governments in the House of Representatives, has dumped the Action Democratic Party, ADP, the platform he used to win the House of Reps election in 2019, for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The news of his defection was conveyed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila during the plenary today.
Hon Adejumo popularly called Captain Jaco in Ogbomoso stormed the political landscape of the constituency in 2019 on the crest of politics of community service.
He brought in a road grader with which he rehabilitated several roads in the constituency. He became popular and running on the platform of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, the party former Oyo state governor Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala initially energized to seek his governorship ambition in 2019 before he was forced to defect to APC and consequently dropped his ambition, gave Adejumo a lot of mileage.
Though Otunba Akala decamped he supported his candidates within the ADP, a move that ensured victory for some of them including Captain Jaco (who defeated APC candidate, Hon Gunju Ojo, then Speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly, and Hon Segun Ogunwuyi, who then was representing the constituency and who emerged the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP), now Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde).
While Akala had remained in APC becoming the state leader of the party sequel to the demise of ex-governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Captain Ajao stayed put in ADP.
“He has now gone to join his boss, it is long expected,” a political observer noted.
The political observer who preferred anonymity added that Captain Ajao’s defection is a development that will spike competition within APC for the sole ticket of the House of Reps.
It can only get more interesting.
