Governor’s Cup competition returns in Oyo state, to begin Nov 10
The Governor’s Cup Football Competition among secondary schools students in Oyo state is to begin after many years of being in limbo.
The competition was in the past, a good source of talent discovery with many players harvested therein going ahead to play for national teams.
But non-commitment on the part of government ensured the competition became moribund. Also, rise in violence among students discouraged schools from participating.
However, the Governor Seyi Makinde administration is bringing back the competition, and is scheduled to commence on November 10 among interested public and private schools.
According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to Zonal Inspectors of Education (ZIEs) and Local Inspectors of Education (LIEs), signed by one Ogunniran T.E. on behalf of the Commissioner, obtained by ogbomosoinsightonline.com, the registration for the competition will take place between November 1 and 8 while the preliminary stages at the local level will come up between November 10 and 15.
Winners of the preliminary stages will play the quarter finals on November 25 and 26 with the semi finals scheduled for November 28.
Finals will come up on December 2.
