A youth group, Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum, OCYF, has resumed its struggle against the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, Ogbomoso Business District, over what it termed oppressive tendencies against their customers.
According to a press release made available to ogbomosoinsightonline.com the group stated that IBDEC Ogbomoso Business District has violated the agreement they had last December which borders on improved services for customers.
OCYF revealed this attitude by electricity company “is what has driven us to organizing the one million man protest so as to drum it into the ears of IBEDC that Ogbomoso people are no fools. OCYF will not relent until sanity is brought to the system.”
The group has thus slated the protest for Monday, June 21, 2021, starting 9am at Takie Square, Ogbomoso.
Among others, IBEDC is accused “of issuance of crazy bills to customers, failure to provide prepaid meters to houses even those who paid for prepaid meters eiight years ago are yet to receive the meter and they turn around to issue them crazy bills.
“Also, we held meeting with them in December last year and it was agreed they would henceforth be responsible for repair of faults be it in the transformer, cable or damaged poles. How can you abdicate such responsibility and expect people’s cooperation?
“It is your business that brings you money by extorting the customers yet you still push repairs of faults to us. IBEDC must take responsibility for such we won’t take it again.
“We have also discovered that their men are in the habit of bringing prepaid meters from other locations for sale at exorbitant prices, they also code meters. Racketeering of prepaid meters, stealing prepaid meters from other places and selling them here and so have addresses that are not of this place.”
President of OCYF Rev’d Peter Olaleye in a telephone interview said the group would ground IBEDC for the week warning they “would not allow them to continue their reign of oppression,” while enjoining the people of Ogbomoso to join the protest on Monday.
